Waste Reduction Programs with Results
2015-06-16 20:11:37 UTC
We have launched a National Zero Waste Council in Canada focused on advancing waste prevention and reduction. The Council has created a website (nzwc.ca) to share resources, where municipalities, businesses and not for profits can use actual campaign materials or strategies that have had results. I'm looking for social marketing programs focused specifically on waste reduction (not recycling) in the past 5 years. Does anyone have anything to share, or know of programs out there? (This is not limited to Canadian programs.)
Thanks

Re: Waste Management Education Tools for Schools

Hi Sean,
most grade 4 teachers bring their classrooms to the Edmonton Waste Management Centre for a tour because waste is part of the grade 4 science curriculum. We send kits to the teachers when they call us to book a tour. We haven't tracked the appearance of stickers at Eco Stations for quite some time so we need to do that again.

Hi Sean,
In our grade 4 teachers' kits, we include a take-home exercise so that the parents receive the message; they are the real audience. We provide Eco Station stickers, and the students are asked to go home and with their parents, attach the stickers to HHW products that should be taken to an Eco Station. That way we can also measure the number of items coming into the Eco Stations with stickers on them.

Talking Recycling Bins
2010-03-08 19:39:15 UTC
We're developing a multi-family recycling campaign to increase participation and reduce contamination. The idea is to install motion sensor devices inside the bins that will make the bins 'talk' to users. I'm wondering if anyone has tried this before in large front-end bins, what type of device they used, and how they were installed.
