The Materials Management Section of Oregon DEQ (in Portland) is recruiting for a Senior Policy Analyst, who will work closely with our programs management team, legislative analyst and senior project staff on the development of policy options, administrative rules, legislative proposals and strategic plans. This individual will conduct extensive engagement with stakeholders, lead the development of a regular forum to facilitate communication between DEQ and stakeholders, and serve as a subject matter expert in the area of extended producer responsibility. This is a permanent, full-time position.
This position has an annual salary range of $57,636 - $84,252, plus comprehensive benefits. Applications are due December 12 at 11:59 pm.

Oregon hiring Material Recovery Specialist

Oregon DEQ's Materials Management section has an opening for one (1) Natural Resource Specialist 3 Material Recovery Specialist. The purpose of this position is to develop and implement strategies to increase and improve recovery of high impact materials. The person in this position will work with partners in the industry and other stakeholders to evaluate existing material recovery programs and different management options. A strong focus on multi-tenant recycling will define the initial work for this position. This position will lead the evaluation of multi-tenant recycling programs in preparation for a required 2019 legislative report (ORS 459A.015(Sec.13c)). This position will coordinate and discuss strategies with other states and oversee grants to local governments, contracts and/or pilot projects as appropriate.

Oregon DEQ has an exceptional opportunity for candidates interested in serving as a Senior Policy Analyst in our Materials Management Section, which plans and implements policies, programs and projects to reduce impacts of materials and products throughout their life cycle, from design and production through distribution, consumption and use and management at end-of-life. This position will support implementation of Materials Management in Oregon: 2050 Vision and Framework for Action.
The successful candidate will work closely with the programs management team, legislative analyst and senior project staff and will lead and participate in teams evaluating and developing policy options, administrative rules, legislative proposals and strategic plans for the program as well as specific projects. S/he will conduct extensive engagement with stakeholders on specific projects, policies and legislative issues. Experience in materials management, including extended producer responsibility, is desirable but not required.

e-Stewards is the gold standard for 3rd party certification. They focus on restricting hazardous materials exports to developing nations; and require safe and sustainable management practices including no burn or bury, and no child or prison labor.
