Mobile Education Unit
2009-10-28 09:59:47 UTC
I am interested in learning if anyone operates an education vehicle. An all-in-one vehicle that can be driven to schools, fairs, etc. and provide hands-on education to participants. Thank you for any information you might be able to provide.

Study of Mobile Educational Unit Effectiveness
2009-05-13 10:05:48 UTC
Has anyone done any research on the effectiveness of mobile education units verses classroom or community presentations? Do more people attend presentations when the presentation is brought to them through a mobile unit?
I am specifically interested in learning if the use of these vehicles is expected to result in more participation in recycling programs. I believe they are more commonly used by Health and Safety educators. So, if anyone has data that shows more people adopted heath practices or safety practices after being educated through a mobile unit verses a classroom experience, that may be applicable.

Burning Recovered Motor Oil for Fuel vs Recycling It
2008-11-05 06:48:41 UTC
We are currently considering building a facility to accept various household hazardous wastes, including motor oil. We are looking at heating needs and were wondering if we should utilize the anticipated used motor oil as a fuel rather than recycling it. Has anyone researched this question or have the ability to direct me where to research the issue?
Thanks for your time.

Bi-Weekly Curbside Recycling
2008-05-05 09:49:31 UTC
Does anyone have any studies or experience in switching from a weekly curbside recycling program to a bi-weekly? We have had this proposed and it appears counterproductive.

Businesses Assisting the Environment at No Charge

Tech companies offer free rights to eco-friendly patents Four tech companies have partnered with the World Business Council for Sustainable Development to introduce the Eco-Patent Commons, which will offer the rights to eco-friendly technologies for free. IBM, Sony, Nokia, and Pitney Bowes have together donated 31 patents to the public domain, including one for a shock-absorbing cardboard tray that would replace the need for Styrofoam peanuts, and another patent for a way to recycle cell phones into new devices. "Innovation to address environmental issues will require both the application of technology as well as new models for sharing intellectual property among companies in different industries," says IBM Senior Vice President John E. Kelly III. "IBM is excited to bring its patent resources to bear in service of the environment. We strongly urge other companies to contribute to the Eco-Patent Commons." Perhaps we'll donate our patented pun-maker. sources: San Francisco Chronicle, Bloomberg, Reuters, CNN Money

Pharmaceutical Take-Back Programs
2007-04-05 14:23:32 UTC
I'm trying to start a program in partnership with pharmacies in Illinois to accept unused or expired medications from citizens for proper destruction. We have always accepted these items as part of a list of household hazardous or chemical wastes, but we would like to start something that is easier for people to utilize. I have learned that there may exist a conflict between governing laws. When someone wishes to discard their medicine, it may be considered a chemical waste or, in the case of certain drugs, be considered regulated by the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and subject to DEA witnessed collection/destruction. I was hoping someone has some insight or experience with this situation and could offer some guidance.
Thanks!
