Hi
I'd like to list an item on Listserv regarding barriers to sustainable housing. "Brisbane City Council has introduced a Sustainable Housing Rebate. Under the program Council will give a $500 rebate to the first 500 people who build or buy new sustainable homes in the Brisbane area between July 2005 and December 2006. The objective of the program is to encourage buyers to future proof their home by including water and energy saving features, as well as design elements intended to improve accessibility such as level entry-ways, wider doors and hallways, and easy to operate light switches and power points. In line with this program we have developed a Checklist for houses and units. We have compiled a list of what we consider to be the perceived barriers, however, we were hoping you would be able to point us in the direction of some market research that you may be aware of that shows the real barriers, both from the perspective of the buyers/residents and the housing industry. Any information or direction you would be able to give would be greatly appreciated.

Others may be interested in a new journal from Australia: Sanctuary: sustainable living with style. Issue 1 is available now. It is $9.95(AUS) and sits in the home renovation glossy section in the newsagent. The homes in this first addition are varied and interesting but there are also a lot of ads for product and useful contacts so probably useful for the home renovator as well as the professional designer. The journal is published by ATA (Alternative Technology Association) and supported by the Australian Government through the Your Home project. Your Home is a suite of consumer and technical guide materials and tools developed to encourage the design, construction or renovation of homes to be comfortable, healthy and more environmentally sustainable. Have a look at www.yourhome.gov.au

In a message dated 2/11/05, Sue Baker mentioned a "checklist for houses and units" dealing with perceived barriers. Sue, if you read this, could you please send me a copy of that list?
Thanks.
