Here's a quick blush. Depending on your audience there are quite a few studies out there. You might want to take a look at environmental mandates that use education as one of their methodology. Many jurisdictions have education compliance objectives inside their Clean Water Act NPDES permits. Likewise waste reduction mandates have been very successful in initiating large education programs. CA has a lot of good examples. One that is quite interesting is the Education and the Environment Initiative. http://www.calepa.ca.gov/Education/EEI/default.htm There is some research listed on their site along with some interesting strategies for aligning environmental literacy with academic standards.
