Could anyone direct me to discussions of what retail corporations could be doing or case studies focused on solutions where they concern corporate initiatives in sustainability?
Thanks in advance.

Another good newsletter to follow some initiatives is GreenBiz: http://www.greenbiz.com/enewsletter/. Several good links here as well.

Here's a reward program that supports the basic 3Rs +
America's Marketplace Recycles! awards
Know of shopping centers who are leaders in waste prevention or in recycling? Who have hosted one-time events related to recycling, such as electronics take-back events? Who have "cutting edge" landscaping? Who reuse or recycle their C&D waste from renovation? They, or their retail partners, may want to send in an application for an America's Marketplace Recycles! award from the International Council of Shopping Centers--this award program has been developed in conjunction with EPA. Award applications are due September 1, 2006. This year, they are open internationally as well as domestically.
The following categories are available for both large and small shopping centers or retailers.
o New Recycling Program Award
o Expansion of an Existing Recycling Program Award
o Outstanding Retailer Award
o Outstanding Shopping Center Owner/Developer Award
o Public Awareness Program Award
o Community Partnership Award
o Innovative Recycling Program Award
In addition, the judging panel will present a special award to the most outstanding nominee within these seven categories: the ICSC "Recycler of the Year".
For more information and copies of the award applications, check out ICSC's website at http://www.icsc.org/government/index.php In addition, EPA's website for AMR! is at www.epa.gov/rcc/amr.htm

Stephen,
Check Sustainable Northwest's Web site for their publications (https://sustainablenorthwest.org/resources/publications.php) and CasePlace (http://caseplace.org/). Their publications contain many retail examples. Our first DVD, "Architecture to Zucchini" includes 12 case studies of businesses, including retail, that have embraced sustainability.

A gentleman, MANDAR PARASNIS, that used to be with the Asian Productivity Organization sent me this missive this morning, which those in the retail discussion might find of interest. Under the rules of Doug's listserve I did not include the attachment referred to below. I am sure that if you contacted Mandar he would be pleased to share it with anyone.

"For the last few months, I was working on a UNEP-DTIE project to promote sustainable consumption and production in retail sector in SE Asia (www.unep.fr/pc/retail). As a part of this project, we have produced a guidance manual and a companion CD-ROM (which contains the training modules and a searchable knowledgebase of more than 150 relevant documents, manuals, databases etc.) primarily for retailers. The same was launched during the UNEP-APO Web-seminar in mid-May and is now being translated in Spanish as well. I am attaching herewith the zipped PDF file for the guidance manual, while the contents of the CD-ROM are available online at http://www.studioinspira.com/UNEP/cd/. The same would soon be available on the UNEP website (www.unep.fr/pc/retail). I very much hope that you find these products useful and interesting.
Best Regards:
