We have just finished our project on a CBSM approach to illegal dumping of rubbish (flytipping) in Porirua, Wellington, Aotearoa/New Zealand. Our final output for it was a Waste Education Strategy (WES) for the Porirua City Council. If anybody would like a copy of the WES please email me. We found the CBSM approach to be useful but also concluded that community development models also need to be used in such a culturally diverse and low socio-economic area as eastern Porirua. Would be interested to see if anyone else has had a similar experience.

Hi Sarah:
I'd love to get a copy of your WES. It sounds like it could be very helpful for the project I'm working on here in Hamilton, Canada.

We're putting together a tool kit for California practitioners with responsibility for illegal dumping programs. I'd like to include effective CBSM technigues and would appreciate evaluation results from any effective awareness or behavior change campaigns

Sarah:
I'd love to see a copy of your Waste Education Strategy on illegal dumping--As a Californian I'm even more interested in how the label of "flytipping' got attached to this activity.
Thank you for your consideration,

Hello Sarah,
I hope the 10 year period here won't hinder the information exchange. I would be very interested in hearing about the WES method. I'm working in a rural area in Southern Colorado, US, in which illegal dumping is a big issue. Also dealing with low socio-economic status. Barriers to proper disposal include distance to the regional landfill (sometimes over an hour for some communities) and lack of effectively operating transfer stations.
Thank you!
