Hi,
I have the task of producing signs to try to help prevent littering. They are to be placed at key recreational points/parks that front our river. These areas are consistently being trashed and bins provided are simply not used. Does anyone have any good examples of innovative signage? Although this signage is the initial task I am also interested in broader litter reduction campaigns, especially those that target indigenous peoples. I do not believe that signage alone will help to reduce this problem.

Hi Katya, Nova Scotia Environment just went through an anti-littering campagn called "The Best Thing You'll Never Do". The signs were basically went for a sarcastic attention grabber. The signs essentially say "Please Litter" and then goes on to say that we all know littering is not acceptable so please don't. Check out the web site. There is also research and a pledge not to litter section. The program launched spring 2009 so it will be interesting to see what a post survey will show.
This is not my program but I can conect you with the person behind the program if you want more info..
