I'm looking for examples of creative initiatives or events which support reuse behavior - specifically related to second-hand furniture, furnishings and household items.
I am particularly interested in student housing and communities with transient (often student) populations. This could include campuses or municipalities with programs that connect students to second-hand outlets or to one another (beyond common classifieds / freecycling websites) or regular sales, swaps, education on furnished accommodations, etc.

Hi Ashlrea,
You might check out the Spring Move Out Project, a collaboration between the City of Burlington, University of Vermont, Chittenden Solid Waste District, ReSOURCE (formerly Recycle North), Burlington Neighborhood Project, Champlain College, and St. Michael's College. The partners meet I think once a month 4-5 months before the 'SMOP' date to coordinate details and outreach efforts. I think the waste district came up with the idea originally; the folks there I think would be happy to chat with you: (802) 872-8100. They've done this for several years now - maybe 6 or 7? and it is pretty successful.
Webpage for the event (which of course doesn't explain the work that goes into it):
