We are looking for research identifying perceived barriers and benefits to households reducing fertilizer use on their lawns. We are also looking for information on programs that have successfully encouraged vegetative buffers on shoreline properties.

I have posted the Innisfil Creek report on CBSM research for phosphorous reduction in the agricultural sector on my blog. The blog post included a link to a previous blog post for the Rondeau Bay report, which was CBSM research on phosphorous reduction for near-shore residents. I have two more related reports, but want to make sure that my clients approve their release before posting them.
In the meantime, you can get the 2 available reports at beyondattitude.com.
Cheers,

Hi Cheryl;
The Bay of Quinte Remedial Action Plan, along with other government partners, undertook a CBSM pilot project this past summer to address household fertilizer use. I believe the report is not available yet, but their link http://www.zeropzeroworries.ca/ may be able to help you - or you can contact them directly.

Check with Sarasota County in Florida, USA. They pioneered the nitrogen management ordinance concept in the state and have a vegetated buffer program. http://www.scgov.net/EnvironmentalServices/
I can give you some names if you contact me directly. Don't want to post them without permission.

Hi Elizabeth,
Ontario has done quite a bit of work in this area. Perhaps contact the Centre for Sustainable Watersheds, in Portland, Ontario. http://www.watersheds.ca/
Also the Charleston Lake Association at: http://www.charlestonlakeassociation.ca/environment.html
And the Gananoque (gan-ann-knock-quay) River Waterway Association at: http://www.grwa.ca/
The approach taken has been to work with the 'waterway association' (landowners) to work with them on shoreline and lake assessments, then to provide information and data on 'state of the waterway' and then proceed to 'how can we improve this' and 'what environmental, economic, and social benefits will accrue through our efforts.
High profile respected leadership very helpful.

Hi folks
I have received several requests for the reports I mentioned above. I will post them to my blog, beyondattitude.com by Monday and then post here that they are available. We have 4 reports specific to CBSM and nutrient loading, I will share what I can, subject to client approval. I know I have approval to share two at least, and will ask about the others.
Cheers,
Ken

Hi Cheryl,
If you email me at [email protected] I will send you 2 reports for 2 separate projects where we addressed reduction of phosphorous by residents. One connducted the research you are looking for and developed a CBSM pilot strategy to address it, and the other did the same for people living in a watershed but not right on the shore. They addressed fertilization, buffers, and other issues such as using phosphorous-dishwasher detergent. Both were done in the Great Lakes area.
Cheers,
Ken
