This webinar presents a case study of the application of Community-Based Social Marketing to encourage backyard composting in the Township of Langley, British Columbia. The entire project is presented, from original research to the findings of the pilot project and how the Township moved forward with a subsequent roll-out.
The project was conducted in two very different neighbourhoods, one a mature area and one a brand new development. Issues of language, yard-size, use of in-sink disposal units, gardening and other challenges will be discussed. As well, the presentation identifies the best practices in promoting the behaviour of composting in the backyard.
Presented by Ken Donnelly, LURA Consulting on Wednesday March 21, 2012 from 12:00 to 1:00 Eastern Daylight Time.

Hi Teresa,
The City of Red Deer has a composting at home program based on the Langley program. We are in our fifth year, and it is a very popular program. You can see a report on the results of the pilot at http://www.reddeer.ca/city-services/environment-and-conservation/your-yard/composting/composting-at-home-program/. I am happy to share any of our resources with anyone who is interested: [email protected] or 403-314-5894.

Lauren, this is excellent! I had no idea Red Deer was doing this (and I'm from Edmonton originally...). I'm excitedly reading through the report right now. Thanks for sharing and your willingness to share your contact information as well, I might be in touch down the road as we work on refining our programs.
