Our City (Cumberland, MD) has been awarded a grant to do some public outreach in regards to tree planting on private property. That is the good news, but I have a challenge ahead to pick out a great intern to assist us with the research part of our program.
We are using the CBSM http://www.cbsm.com/public/world.lasso model and am expected to hire an intern to get into our community and identify barriers to residential tree planting. Once the barriers are identified, we will design a pilot program to address those barriers.
What I am in particular need of right now is a template job description for the intern position. Our local DNR office mentioned that instead of reinventing the wheel why not contact other professionals that may have already conducted an outreach program that requires intern hiring.
Its a long shot, but would anyone have such a job description example?
thank you, Raquel

The Calgary tour de nuit Society has a generic Intern posting that can be found front and centre on our website www.morepeoplecycling.ca In this case we were prepared to tailor a job description based on the posting to successful individual applicants to our active and sustainable transportation program. We thought that this would broaden the pool and allow us to tailor projects to the skills of the student.
We adopted this approach when we found that posting multiple summer student positions on numerous university career websites was just way too tedious. Here we use a general posting to direct students to the detailed ones on our website.
Feel free to make use of this template. We found that it is a quick fix to modify the responsibilities and duties of the position and even more so the qualifications.

I have an intern job description, but it's very specific to our position and likely wouldn't apply to anyone else. It's the same with our other job descriptions. I'm sure your job description would need to be the same, so perhaps you're interested in more of a prerequisites, or "knowledge, skills, and abilities" write-up? The thing about interns is that they aren't expected to have experience, but for social marketing and other public contact work, we need a certain personality type. To help us determine that I have a list of questions we developed for use in interviewing interns. It helps us select for a suitable personality. If it's helpful, I can pass it on to you.

I believe you hit the nail on the head about needing a particular personality type. This project has the best opportunity to be successful if we can recruit the right personality. I would be very interested in such list of questions. We do intend on doing interviews so we can personally assess!
Thank you!
