Hello all.

I am currently working on a city wide project to increase curbside recycling participation. We are doing a very targeted, neighborhood based, canvassing residential outreach program. We are doing this to help gather attitudes toward curbside recycling program as well as identifying barriers residents have regarding curbside recycling.

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas or could point me to research to help aid in developing a coding system for the answers we receive. We are hoping to measure, both qualitatively and quantitatively, residents' responses. The entire process of knocking on an individual's door, asking the appropriate questions, and recording all have to be done in a matter of minutes. I am having issues in developing a coding system for the answers so that they can be put into a statistical analysis program.... I have thought about using a likert scale and using that to code; however would like to hear other options-As I want to control for self-reporting bias and also the perception of the canvasser filling out the form (I know this is almost impossible, but you can control it some what)

The demographic of the neighborhood being addressed is very low-income and low-educated and I would like something simple for individuals to understand, as well as something easy for a canvasser to fill out.

I am interested in what others have done. And any help would be appreciated!!

Thanks!
