Wondering if anyone can give examples of communities/municipalities that successfully collect data directly from local waste haulers to get an accurate picture of whether waste diversion campaigns are working or not.
Data gathered from Waste Hauler Data to measure waste diversion program effectiveness

Hi, Rachel! Sorry for the late reply. I thought I was set up to receive notifications to my email, but that's not the case. I'd be interested in having a conversation with you if you're still interested in collaborating. [email protected]
Thank you, David!
Winnipeg tracks its diversion data consistently, and while I haven't seen this applied to a study of whether a campaign is working, it has measured accurately what the impact of adding yard waste as a composted stream has been. Search "Comprehensive Integrated Waste Management Strategy Plan" from Winnipeg for some good info, and this link may help too: https://legacy.winnipeg.ca/sustainability/WasteManagementAndDiversion.stm
Hi
We use a system call Bin Tracker https://bintracker.com.au/ within our building and we have taught the cleaners how to weigh waste.
We are using the data to drive our staff engagement program.
Also we put in our contracts that waste data must be supplied by the contractor - this covers off areas where we don't have bin tracker.
Regards
David

Susan, I'm researching a similar topic to your posted question (Dec 28, 2022), specifically regarding organics hauling. I work for a county in Washington State and we've developed a community compost pilot program in partnership with our local hauler. This hauler doesn't have onboard scales in the truck and at this juncture are not open to investing in them. So we are manually weighing the food scrap carts at each pilot site just prior to collection. Manual weighing is cumbersome and expensive from a labor standpoint and certainly not a long term solution when we take the program to scale. Yet without the ability to gather valid, verifiable data, it's much harder to make a strong case for the program in confidence.
I'd be interested in any key points of wisdom you gleaned from your outreach on this question.
