Surveyed 302 Michigan residents over 18 yrs of age regarding their satisfaction with the container law, their likes and dislikes about the recycling system, and the reaction to retailer activities in adapting to the law. Despite their lack of experience with recycling, Ss exhibited a much higher level of acceptance of the return system than was anticipated, indicating a fairly rapid rate of behavioral adaptation. Discussed is the utility in taking an ecological approach that considers the interaction with the consumers, sales people, and media. (38 ref)
