Commitment to the Dominant Social Paradigm and Concern for Environmental Quality

Dunlap, R. E. & VanLiere, K. D. (1984). Commitment to the dominant social paradigm and concern for environmental quality. Social Science Quarterly, 65, 4, 1013-1028.

The assumption that commitment to our society's dominant values and beliefs, or "dominant social paradigm:" (DSP), leads us to lack of concern for environmental quality is tested. The hypothesized negative relationship between eight dimensions of the DSP and environmental concern is strongly supported, although some DSP dimensions are found to be more important than are others. Implications of the results are discussed.
