Relationships of Proenvironmental Attitudes to Wildernism-Urbanism and Pro-Preservation Attitudes toward Historical Heritages

Based on data from 138 undergraduates of a national university responding to a five-point scale on a 34-item questionnaire, various correlates of proenvironmental attitudes, including wildernism-urbanism & pro-preservation attitudes toward cultural heritages, are explored. Correlation analyses support the hypotheses that those who have stronger proenvironmental attitudes have stronger wildernism, & that those who have stronger proenvironmental attitudes have stronger pro-preservation attitudes toward cultural heritage. A significant & positive relationship between "escapism" (escape from city life but not from environmental pollution) & "support for population control" was additionally noted. It is suggested that attitudes toward social work with regard to "the weak" & to pro-preservation attitudes toward cultural heritages are also correlated with proenvironmental attitudes. 3 Tables, 19 References.
