Effects of two residential environmental workshops on high school students

Jordan, J. R., Hungerford, H. R., & Tomera, A. N. (1986). Effects of two residential environmental workshops on high school students. Journal of Environmental Education, 18, 1, 15-22.
Compared 62 high school students' knowledge of and participation in responsible environmental behaviors after participation in a 6-day residential environmental education workshop. One treatment group received instruction in environmental issues, while the other group received instruction in both environmental issues and action strategies. Results show that Ss receiving issue awareness instruction failed to demonstrate an increase in their level of knowledge of environmental action and after 2 mo did not report participating in a significantly greater number of environmental behaviors. Ss receiving instruction in both environmental issues and action strategies demonstrated an increased level of knowledge of environmental action and reported participating in a greater number of environmental behaviors.
