The Generalizability of Attitudinal Correlates of Proenvironmental Behavior

Siegfried, W. D., Tedeschi, R. G., & Cann, A. (1982). The generalizability of attitudinal correlates of proenvironmental behavior. Journal of Social Psychology, 118, 2, 287-288.

Tested certain demographic and attitudinal variables with a wide range of pro-environmental behaviors by analyzing questionnaires completed by 192 undergraduates. Ss engaged in only 4 types of pro-environmental behavior: avoiding the use of unnecessary lights, lowering home thermostats, not purchasing polluting products, and using less hot water. It is suggested that a missing link in environmental research is the development of a typology for different classes of pro-environmental behaviors in addition to investigations of predictor classes.
