The Family Life Cycle and Preferred Policies for Gasoline Conservation: A Conjoint Analysis

Tashchian, A., Tashchian, R. O., & Slama, M. E. The family life cycle and preferred policies for gasoline conservation: A conjoint analysis. Vol. 45. 1983. 689-697.

367 urban residents, classified in the 6 life stages used by R. B. Schafer and P. M. Keith (1981), indicated their preference for various gasoline conservation policies. Young married Ss were more willing to adopt energy conservation measures than young singles or older married Ss. Ss in the 1st 3 life stages preferred a gas-guzzler tax, those in the next 2 stages preferred no conservation measures, and retirees favored closing gas stations on Sundays. The need to consider consumer preferences across stages of the family life cycle is considered. (39 ref)
