Dennis et al (see PA, Vol 78:8669) suggestion that manipulation of social and informational contexts would induce people to change their use of energy or to adopt energy-efficient technologies, thus resulting in society-wide reductions in energy demand. A more productive analysis would account for the fact that the technological devices and products used are potent sources of behavioral control.
