Shim, S. (1995). Environmentalism and consumers' clothing disposal patterns: An exploratory study. Clothing and Textiles Research Journal, 13, 1, 38-48.

Examined the influence of environmental attitude and waste recycling behavior on clothing disposal patterns and the influence of gender, age, and ethnicity on clothing disposal patterns, environmental attitude, and waste recycling behavior. Data were collected from 468 undergraduates. Based on focus group interviews and a pilot test, clothing disposal patterns consisted of 8 constructs measuring Economically Motivated Resale, Environmentally Motivated Resale, Charity Motivated Donation, Environmentally Motivated Donation, Economically Motivated Reuse, Environmentally Motivated Reuse, Convenience-Oriented Discarding, and Unawareness-Based Discarding. Environmental attitude influenced several environmentally oriented clothing disposal patterns. Gender, age, and ethnicity selectively predicted environmental attitude, waste recycling behavior, and clothing disposal patterns.
