Dear members,

I am looking for information on best practices related to solid waste management at fishing harbours. There are several challenges that have been identified by local Harbour Authorities, including the following: - Fishermen still throw waste overboard or burn it in a barrel, despite regulations that prohibit both of these practices. - If the waste does make it back to shore, there are many items like lobster traps, nylon rope, plastics and bait boxes (cardboard with a plastic liner) that may be difficult to recycle or compost. - Illegal dumping of household waste in the harbour containers, either by local residents or the fishermen themselves. Any information you can provide on successful waste diversion programs or campaigns related to Harbour Authorities would be helpful.

Regards,
Alanna McPhee
