Now that some countries and states are considering the phase-out of incandescent light bulbs and the substitution with more efficient sources, for now fluorescents, no doubt. If you are in manufacturing this must be a boon where some products are banned by law and others supported. Millions of consumers will have to be educated about proper disposal of fluorescent bulbs. Is this the right time to engage the limited amount of fluorescent bulb manufacturers to create a take back program where spent fluorescent bulbs can be returned to the point of sale, and those manufacturers have a guaranteed return flow of preprocessed raw materials. How would we engage the lighting, utility, energy conservation and environmental communities to creatively think about disposal and resource opportunities?
