Hi all
I'm looking for any information on energy efficiency solutions in hospital buildings - particularly involving specific quipmnt and facilities such as sterilizers, dishwashers, and dedicated operating theatre A/C which all use a lot of energy. Also interested in waste minimization in hospitals - how this can be achieved yet still maintain infection control and high standards of health and hygiene. (There seems to be a high degree of "single use and throw away" items in the operating theatre environment, mostly for good reason, but I'd be interested in any thoughts or developments in this area). Also interested in education and training programs for hospital staff to raise awareness.
Any help appreciated!
Thanks
Mark

While there are some scattered reports and case studies, there is nothing, that I know of, entirely specific to energy efficiency in Hospitals, but there are a couple of great resources that look at the Greening of Healthcare, including energy, waste, toxics, food, etc. Hospital for a Health Environment (http://www.h2e-online.org) has a lot of resources (including case studies and a listserv). Closer to home, HealthcareEnvironet (http://www.c2p2online.com/main.php3?section&doc_id9) brings a Canadian spin to the topic and has a few case studies, I think...as well as a small listserv. Health Care Without Harm (www.noharm.org) is another resource that may be of use. The Clean Med conferences (www.cleanmed.com/) site may also be helpful as the site does publish the presentations. As for education and training programs, the Fostering Sustainable Behaviour site (www.cbsm.com), although not specific to Healthcare, is another good resource with an active listserv.
