I am seeking information and examples of stormwater planters used to filter/infiltrate roof runoff in urban areas. I am particularly interested in information on performance issues in winter climates.

Please click on case studies for "Low Impact Development" in the Massachusetts Smart Growth/Smart Energy Toolkit: http://www.mass.gov/envir/smart_growth_toolkit/index.html
This includes many examples of rain gardens in Massachusetts (a cold climate). Some infiltrate roof runoff and others infiltrate runoff from paved areas.

This project in Banff: http://www.arctosbanff.ca/projects/bison.htm has lots of stormwater capture via plantings, and we certainly have a cold climate! I think the Arctos and Bird people would be willing to share their experience with others.
