Be Tire Smart week is happening May 12-18. Check out www.betiresmart.ca for fact sheets and a Leadership Kit. You can download or order a kit that includes all you need to host a clinic in your community, including posters and an evaluation form. Teach people how to properly inflate their tires and to care for their tires. This website is referenced by Transport Canada. The site also offers some stuides on tire inflation and dramatic video demonstrating winter tires versus all-seasons. There was a report on Global News yesterday that stated that tires six years or orlder are not safe. At six years, the rubber begins to harden and is at risk of tread separation. It is recommended that you not use tires this old. Holding a clinic on proper tire inflation can have a positive impact on fuel consumption but is also a great opportunity to share invaluable information about tire safety. How many people actually check their spare tire until they need it? I looked at mine the other day, but didn't know it may be unsafe because of its age.
