Has anyone seen any research on the "carbon footprint" of production, distribution, etc. of bottled water?
Thanks!

Have you tried to use the software Simapro LCA? There you can estimate everything you want (CO2, H2O, NOx, etc) for the supply chain of some product, for instance. The simapro has a huge data base for the raw materials, industrial processes, distribution, etc. You may find more at: http://www.pre.nl/simapro/default.htm

The Carbon Trust in the UK has an excellent method of calculating the carbon footprint of just about anything and importantly it also delivers a labellign scheme adopted by comapnies such as Pepsi and Tesco. I think it's quite possible their IP could become a global standard as it's already being used on many fmcg products available in supermarkets in the UK so worth contacting them I'd suggest.
