Hi everyone,

Thanks again to everyone who responded to my request a few months ago for information on reusable bag campaigns. If anyone is interested in seeing our final paper on applying persuasive messaging theory to message design for a reusable bag campaign, please feel free to email me and request the PDF. On a different note, I am currently working in the communications department of a conservation foundation in Panama. They are looking to partner with local grocery stores to set up recycling centers at the stores and want to first conduct a formative research survey. Recycling is not at all widespread in Panama. There are no curbside programs, no present initiatives from government, and essentially no social norm around recycling yet (other than not recycling). There are some recycling centers (supposedly) but most people do not know where they are, nor is it clear what is recyclable. In developing the survey, Ive been looking through the great resources on the CBSM site and in addition, I wanted to ask the list two questions:

1) Does anyone have additional information (articles or anecdotes) on recycling campaigns in which recycling efforts were just starting and involved taking ones recyclables to a center, not a curbside program? Information on campaigns in developing countries would be especially helpful.

2) Given the environment in Panama that I described, does anyone have opinions on whether the Health Belief Model or the Theory of Planned Behavior might be used to greater success for this particular recycling campaign? If respondents would like to send their emails directly to me, I can compile responses and send them back to the list.

Thanks in advance for your insights.

Best,
Jennifer Kane
