Thirty years ago, a typical home had about three plugged-in devices. A recent study by the Energy Center of Wisconsin reveals homes now have 30 or more devices, which account for 15% to 30% of a homes total electricity.

This technical and behavioral field assessment identifies promising opportunities and program strategies for reducing electricity waste among home electronic devices. Download the final report at www.ecw.org/plugload.

This project would not have been possible without the 1,013 Minnesota households that gave us their time and particularly the 50 households that opened their homes to us as participants in the field data collection portion of the study. The project was supported by a Conservation Applied Research and Development Grant from the Minnesota Department of Commerce, Office of Energy Security, and by funding from Minnesota Power Company.
