Project Twin Streams is an award-winning urban sustainability and stormwater project.

The project is restoring 56 kms of stream banks in Waitakere City, Auckland using an integrated community development approach with the aim of improving the quality of stormwater flowing into streams and the Waitemata harbour.

Waitakere City Council is hosting a free one-day seminar on 2 August 2010 intended to facilitate knowledge and skills transfer for those working in the areas of:

local, regional and central government
community development
sustainability
education
environmental restoration
stormwater management

Session one will showcase the project building blocks of successful streambank restoration, the purchase of 156 properties without recourse to compulsory purchase and the construction of a 9.6km walk/cycleway network.

Session two will highlight the unique community development approach of the project, the use of creative engagement to foster awareness of stream health and the innovative use of branding and communications.

The afternoon will provide an opportunity to see the project in action with options for either a stream-side tour, a glimpse of the future directions of Project Twin Streams or a facilitated Q+A session with project leaders.
