I first heard of sustainable development in 1993 as a Cultural Anthropology major at the University of Michigan. Several classes focused on international development. After graduating in 1995 I worked for a non-profit in San Francisco, called the Environmental Policy Center, that worked with local governments to provide them practical ideas from other local governments on how to build sustainable communities. In 1998 I bagan graduate school, again at the University of Michigan, to earn a Master of Public Policy. There I took an interdisciplinary focus on environmental policy by taking classes from the School of Public Policy, the Scool of Natural Resources, and the Business School. I now work for the U.S. Departmet of Energy as a budget analyst for the Chief Financial Officer. I work on environmental managment programs, which at DOE mean cleanup and remediation of nuclear materials and facilities. I hope to soon do a detail in the area of Energy Efficieny and Renewable Energy.
