I am looking at developing an incentive program to promote the purchasing of electric lawnmowers in Michigan. It is being discussed that we would finance the rebate on electric mowers at 50 to 100 dollars. I do not think that 50 bucks is enough to get people to make the leap to electric, no matter how much good environmental informtion we provide in the promotional materials. I contend that to change the buying habits of a fairly large group an incentive has to be attractive enough to get them to consider making a radical change. ie. If we provide a 50 dollar rebate on electrics we will not sell twice as many lawnmowers for our rebate money as if we provide a 100 dollar rebate. I say the 100 dollar rebate will sell more.
