The YWCA of the Hartford Region, the largest YWCA in the state of Connecticut has a summer camp called Camp Aya-Po. Annually, the Camp offers various sports, crafts, and outdoors activities to over 500 residing in the Hartford and Tolland Counties. Among the many offerings is swimming and watercraft activities in our accessible lake, Lake Hurd. Currently, Lake Hurd is experiencing a Milfoil infestation. Unable to treat this fungus prior to this past camp season, this noxious weed is spreading throughout the Lake and may find its way into the Connecticut River. Camp Aya-Po take tremendous in its treatment of the environmental and hopes to correct this issue soon. The YWCA is presently investigating sources of funding to deal with the Milfoil. Should have any points of contact or advice on where and how to identify possible funding, it will greatly appreciated.
