I am the state watershed coordinator and oversee a network of basin coordinators who work to foster angency environmental management and citizen cooperation/coordination toward watershed resotration and protection. Motivating local understanding of watershed issues, leadership, and change at the local level are all a part of our job. I am frequently critized by environmental advocates that we should not be practicing watershed "management" (as this implies acceptance and tolerance of pollution and environmental problems), but rather watershed "protection". To that, I say (and agree with the premise of this site) that the "management" aspect of this is less about environmental management than about people management.
