I work as an "organizational ecologist" for WDNR. My major interest is in how to change the behavior of my organization to better achieve its stated mission. I do this through planning and management training & tools, focus on learning, etc., but I run into siginificant cultural barriers (fear of change, fear of accountability and so on). As you have likely experienced, it's exasperating and challenging. My new supervisor stated to me a few weeks ago, "You really must love ambiguity to work at this so much." My training is as a biologist/chemist/engineer, so I have to do a lot of on the job learning. I know that I'm making a difference, but it's slow. Additionally, I work with external partners to find ways to achieve environmental outcomes through a great variety of means, mostly with agriculture in my case. While we have the regulations, we're also looking at the variety of incentives that are available to us. The behavioral aspects of this issue (as well as my internal, agency work) are very important to me as I try to find ways to "incent" the behaviors we're trying to encourage and embody.I look forward to better discovering your site and work!Sincerely,Tim Mulholland, PhDOrganizational Ecologist/Performance Measures Coordinator
