Currently undertaking PhD 'Understanding sustainable development in households'Households working towards sustainable development might be involved in waste minimisation and recycling, energy efficiency, reduced/green/ethical consumption and low impact transport. These activities are promoted by a variety of organisations and agencies and the proposed research aims to integrate these disparate elements in order to: âà ë Identify decision-making processes in households working towards sustainable development in Sheffield and Leeds. âà ë Determine in-depth how these households are managed. âà ë Understand the impact on households of overlapping and possibly conflicting information sources and promotional campaigns. âà ë Develop policy recommendations across stakeholder groups that promote sustainable development. The research will involve a detailed qualitative investigation of households rather than individuals, using interviews and focus groups. In addition, it will combine various elements of sustainable development to provide a complex picture of activity at the household level.
