The Green Team Project, a non-profit project of the Tides Center, helps people practice more environmentally-friendly lifestyles and save money in a fun and supportive atmosphere. The program focuses on environmental education and community building by organizing people in small groups who meet regularly and progress through a locally tailored workbook that concentrates on six resource areas: solid waste, household chemicals, energy, transportation, energy, and community. Actions are tracked and measured with the average team member saving between 10-30% in EACH resource area and between $60-$500 depending on how many actions are completed. The most powerful aspect of this unique program is the motivation and shared experiences that a group provides, which enables participants to move from good intentions to action. There are currently five affiliates across the country: Santa Monica, CA; Palo Alto, CA; Boise, ID; Wichita, KS; and Duval County, FL and their team-oriented approach has proven to be very successful in helping citizens, businesses, and other organizations save valuable resources.
