The Norfolk Field Naturaists is committed to the study, appreciation and conservation of our natural world. We are in a County of 60,000 people. The issues we are dealing with right now are factory farms moving into our area and the threat to water quality. To date the municipal government is unwilling to create an Envrionmental Advisory Committee or put a moritorium on factory farm permits. One farm is being built on an aquifer which serves 40% of the residents of Simcoe. In addition, the local conservation authority is deliberately logging out all the forests in its care - leaving only poor remnants of the previously richly biodiverse forest lands. On the positive side, this community has one of the most comprehensive recycling programmes in Ontario - though it does not compost.
