The City of Columbus' Keep Columbus Beautiful is a community improvement program that promotes and coordinates litter cleanups, graffiti prevention, recycling, and beautification projects. The City of Columbus realizes that neighborhood involvement is the key to strong litter and graffiti prevention programs. Keep Columbus Beautiful promotes neighborhood cleanups through grass-root efforts, with cleanups and projects coordinated and combined with Mayor Michael B. Coleman's Neighborhood Pride program. Neighborhood Pride advances a team approach of city government and residents, neighborhood groups, schools, businesses and churches working together to build better neighborhoods that are safe, clean and free from blight. As a Keep America Beautiful affiliate, our program has been introduced to the "Broken Window Theory" of James Wilson and George Kelling. Our goal is to establish a greater sense of neighborhood pride and control by residents. Keep Columbus Beautiful needs to identify the barriers and benefits of resident participation in neighborhood cleanups.
