I currently live in Seattle, Washington, but we're moving to a rural area in SW Arkansas to be close to my husband's aging parents and develop our property there as a permaculture-based living system. The nearest town is small, about 6,000 people, and I am interested in working with the residents to live more sustainably. I plan to start with food, tapping into the existing farmer's market and possibly setting up some programs about local food and economic activity. I recently studied at Bainbridge Graduate Institute, where I learned about the integration of environmental and social issues, so this will be a practicum of sorts. I have not assessed the area yet, but I know there is widespread poverty, low education levels, and Wal-Mart is popular, to say the least.
