1000 Friends of Central Ohio (www.1kco.org) seeks to raise awareness of citizens and policy makers about specific activities that may either promot or hinder responsible, balanced development and revitalization. We are focused on: supporting a regional vision for Central Ohio; promoting compact, livable communities with housing, employment, and transportation choices and accessible greenspaces; consserving central ohio's productive farm and forest lands; protecting natural resources and scenic areas; and defending opportunities for citizens of Central ohio to participate in the decisions affecting their communities and their future. Three specific areas of concentration include the support and promotion of the regional planning commission's Regional Growth Strategy project, the regional transportation authority's studies for initiating passenger rail, and the protection of the Darby Creek Watershed - a state and national scenic river also identified by The Nature Conservancy as one of the last great places.
