I am strongly committed to a sustainable world and universe. My interest today is to learn more about what you do as an activist in the environmental area in your own community. I am putting together a symposium entitled something like Psychologists as Agents of Change in their own communities and want people who are activists, facilitators, visionists, to share their experience working with others to improve quality of life residences of people in the psychologist's town, city, rural setting. I want to know whether you might be interested in joining us in such a symposia at APA 05 under the aegis of Division 48, Peace Psychology. We have four presentors, one of whom is Dan Christie and he heartedly recommended me contacting you. APA will be from 8/18/-8/12/05 in Washington, DC. The exact day and time are unknowns and won't be determined for some months after proposals are reviewed and a schedule devised. Submission is by midnight Decmber 3. We see the symposia as a way to look at volunteerism in psychology from a number of perspectives-univeristy and community education, helping with group formation and empowerment, religion (one person will speak on Catholicism and her work in Washington, DC, and interfaith work, bringing together different religious groups. Another will look at politics and participation. I think environemental initiatives would be great to add as well as how you do your work-the mechanics of involving others and making things happen. I would need a 300 word description of what you do and some sense of how you see psychologists as volunteers, given the complexity of their roles in such situations and specific skills. The symposium would be to explore with psychologists from many speciality areas to see a place for themselves in such service. Are you interested?
