RE: obtaining domestic energy efficiency and demand reduction through the use of 'commitments'
2007-05-10 00:04:12 UTC
Hi Anna
The Mount Alexander Sustainability Group ran an invitation only screening of An Inconvenient Truth in which people/businesses/organisations had the opportunity to place a business card, or fill in one of our pledge cards, into an urn and commit to reducing their energy and greenhouse footprint by 30% by 2010. We collated those cards and followed up the people to see how we could assist, and are now running a series of workshops and programs with those people/organisations to assist them fulfill their commitment. I think the public nature of the commitment, the sense of undertaking it with others and crucially, the thought that support is available (and someone is checking up on their efforts) is important.
Cheers

Greenpower or Renewable Energy Uptake
2007-02-14 04:22:37 UTC
We are seeking information on programs that have seen a significant uptake of renewable energy purchasing by domestic consumers (that is in the voluntary marketplace where consumers have to specify they wish to purchase renewable energy) and specifically the barriers and benefits that were identified and how they were addressed. We are of course very interested in cbsm approaches. Our organisation is aiming to assist our local government achieve its aim of a 30% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2010 with the aim of becoming carbon neutral by 2020. Currently 3% or residents opt to buy accredited Greenpower products. We have a project to aim to increase this to 30% of residents by 2010 ( a big stretch target admittedly).
