Employee Engagement in Organization Sustainability
2009-11-30 12:18:26 UTC
I am looking for methods and stories of gaining deep employee buy-in in corporate and government sustainability efforts. This means that the employees are truly engaged, not just a little recycling or energy savings efforts. I would like to hear about examples in which the employees, after innovative engagement strategies are implemented, actually make sustainability part of their business and personal missions. So they likely carry these efforts home and in their communities.

Re: Sustainable foods course

Mickey,
Our video, "Good Food, Good Business" may be on target for your course. It's a collection of insights from growers, a grocer, a restauranteur and experts on the innovative connections being used to open new markets and increase profits. You can find more information and watch a preview at http://www.arnoldcreekproductions.com/ Sustainability.htm. We also have a special online multimedia feature on sustainability in higher education that has a segment which addresses food. It's at http://www.arnoldcreekproductions.com/ SustainabilityHigherEducation.htm. Even our newest release titled "Naturally Successful: Entrepreneurship that redefines the bottom line" may be relevant because it applies to the business end of all industries, including food and agriculture. Details and a preview are at http://www.arnoldcreekproductions.com/NaturallySuccessful.htm. All of our DVDs are available through Amazon.com and most national distributors that serve universities and their libraries.

Feedback on Green Higher Education Resource
2007-09-12 15:05:05 UTC
We just completed posting our free online presentation, "A New Course for Higher Education." It's a combination of video clips and photos, along with accompanying explanatory text and links to related school resource pages. All but one of the videos is footage and music -- no narration. Everyone is welcome to check this out at http:// www.arnoldcreekproductions.com/SustainabilityHigherEducation.htm. Recently, we've had some requests by professors for this presentation on DVD. To make that work, we would have to add narration. We want to know if there is enough interest in a DVD version before we invest in an enhanced production. There would be a fee for this product, perhaps under $20. Any feedback from the group would be very much appreciated.
Thanks.

Suggestions for Alerting Decisionmakers in Higher Education
2007-04-25 16:21:25 UTC
My company, Arnold Creek Productions, Inc., has launched a Web site showcasing colleges and universities across the U.S. that are integrating sustainability within their missions and operations. "A New Course for Higher Education" is the series title. It's a collection of free Web-viewable videos and accompanying descriptive content that cover accomplishments in areas such as leadership, energy, buildings, recycling, transportation, curriculum and food. Links direct the viewer to each institution's Web site for further information based on the chapter's subject. Currently, the introduction, leadership and recycling chapters are posted and new chapters will be added every week or so. Due to our commitment to support sustainability in higher education, we felt compelled to serve as a conduit for this information as a way to help inspire more institutions to go green. To learn more about A New Course for Higher Education visit www.arnoldcreekproductions.com/ SustainabilityHigherEducation.htm. We are looking for suggestions on how to alert decisionmakers at colleges and universities about this new resource and ideas on ways to expand the site that are useful for administrators, faculty, students and campus sustainability leaders. Would more institutions be willing to submit videos and photos, along with descriptive materials? Would a collection of videos and resources on a DVD be of value?

Looking for Interesting Facts and Figures on Sustainability
2007-04-21 13:48:11 UTC
We are looking for Web sites or other sources for interesting facts and figures about sustainability. More specifically, these would be "equivalents." For example, someone at a conference I attended said that it requires the energy of burning 100 matches to manufacture one sheet of paper. I've heard that if every home in the U.S. were to switch from one incandescent light bulb to a CFL, the energy saved would make it possible to shut down some number (???) of coal fired power plants. The equivalents would translate abstract/complex aspects related to sustainability and going green into terms that the general public could relate to -- even in a fun or unusual way. Topics are wide open, including green aspects of energy, construction, transportation, food, manufacturing, etc.

Educational Video Input Sought
2007-03-01 16:53:15 UTC
We are in the process of developing a new educational video on sustainability. Some work has been completed on this program but it requires a tighter focus. We are soliciting input to shape the direction of this program so it is useful for the intended audiences. Any thoughts you have would be greatly appreciated.
Sustainability in higher education
While some colleges/universities have made significant commitments to sustainability across the campus, others are still on the fence or only making small operational/curriculum changes. We aim to develop an informative and inspirational video that addresses a core belief system or bedrock issue to motivate administrators (including all staff who would be tasked to institute on-campus efforts) to take steps toward sustainability. What core belief system or bedrock issue do you think we should address that might result in the greatest impact? What information and/or arguments might push them over the tipping point to see the value in going green? What images might reinforce the key messages?

Re: Climate Change and the Faith-Based Community
2006-10-17 14:01:18 UTC
Stephan,
We recently interviewed Rev. Jim Wallis, who is an outspoken faith- based advocate for addressing global warming and other sustainability issues. You can watch a few clips from that interview -- and others -- on our Web site at http://www.arnoldcreekproductions.com/ ACPShorts.htm. His organization, Sojourners, also might be of interest at http://www.sojo.net/index.cfm? action=special.display&item=050111_godspolitics. Locally, our Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon represents 16 denominations and also is very active in supporting efforts to address global warming. Maybe you could get direction/information from them or learn about a similar organization in your area. Another active group in organizing on this front is the Baha'i faith. See http://www.bcca.org/ief/ resource.htm. Much is happening nationally and locally on the faith based front.

Stephen,
Check Sustainable Northwest's Web site for their publications (https://sustainablenorthwest.org/resources/publications.php) and CasePlace (http://caseplace.org/). Their publications contain many retail examples. Our first DVD, "Architecture to Zucchini" includes 12 case studies of businesses, including retail, that have embraced sustainability.

Feedback about DVD Trailer on Sustainable Food
2006-06-15 17:25:58 UTC
We recently posted a trailer for our new video "Good Food, Good Business" on our Web site. It's an educational video on the hot local and organic food trend, with insights from some very knowledgeable businesspeople/experts. We would like to know what you think of this trailer. Does it pique your interest in the program? Why? Does it not seem interesting? Why? Any feedback from you would be very helpful. Watch the trailer at:? http://www.arnoldcreekproductions.com/GFGB.htm. You must have QuickTime or Windows Media Player installed. Any other feedback about our site -- compliments and criticism -- is welcome.
Thank you.

Re: Back to the leadership question of the Long Emergency
2006-06-03 17:27:07 UTC
George's comment about Ecotrust and their multi-sector coordination is on target. By them focussing on a bioregional, cultural and economic perspective, they develop integrated approaches to specific projects. Spencer Beebe, founder of Ecotrust, articulated this vision and methodology well when we interviewed him for our video "Architecture to Zucchini: The people, companies and organizations pioneering sustainability." He said that it's a lost opportunity to construct a green building without examining its function, tenants, footprint, use/replacement of what was there before and long-term effects on and interaction with the community surrounding it. Even the tenants in their building in Portland reflect this approach, with a ShoreBank Pacific, Metaphore, Portland Office of Sustainable Development, Patagonia, World Coffee and others. Anthony Cortese, founder of Second Nature and AASHE, stresses this integrating approach even more when it comes to higher education. In our upcoming video on sustainability in higher education, he says that one of the most important strategies is just to get people who usually don't talk to one another to do just that. He cites the example of a new LEED certified building at Lewis & Clark College in Portland that was conceived and built with extensive collaboration of folks from administration, facilities management and maintenance, faculty, students and even community members.
