Re: Well Water and Groundwater

We have also modified Farm-A-Syst to focus on groundwater and watershed protection for Maine. The Androscoggin Valley SWCD is currently training and piloting the program http://www.androscogginswcd.net/Farm-A-Syst.htm
Our colleagues at Enviromental and Occupational Health have a good homeowner wellwater site, http://www.maine.gov/dhhs/eohp/wells/mewellwater.htm

Maine has a education and enforcement blend approach to limiting invasive aquatics. It's described at http://www.maine.gov/dep/blwq/topic/invasives/index.htm

My colleagues in Environmental Health have done some interesting work in motivating private well owners to test their water quality, focusing on uranium and arsenic, but with the test suite including nitrate. A web site with their materials is located at http://www.maine.gov/dhhs/eohp/wells/mewellwater.htm They've worked with focus groups to tailor the message delivery to the target audience.
