"Social Marketing for Climate Change" Contacts in England
2008-05-19 13:50:51 UTC
I'll be in London and then Cornwall starting mid-June. I would possibly be interested in talking with people about social marketing that helps individuals to reduce their carbon footprints and take other personal actions relative to climate change. If you have any suggestions, I would appreciate hearing them. (Note: I do already know about Solitaire Townsend/Futerra, but would be happy for personal recommendations to people there.)
Thank you.

Overcoming Resistance
2007-06-07 15:35:27 UTC
The Energy and Environment Office of Medford, MA, recently received a grant for the design and installation of a small wind turbine at one of our schools. There are many positive justifications for the project. However, several projects in our local area that have major environmental advantages (Cape Wind, the Boston Green Line Subway extension) have run into fierce resistance that have delayed and greatly increased the costs of the project. We're hoping to get the project off to a good start by defusing opposition early. I'm looking for successful strategies to overcome opposition before it begins (related to wind or not). I would appreciate help in identifying resources that are more practical than theoretical.

Re: Liam Smith and Nancy Adams request with respect to behaviour change

This seems to me an argument for how difficult it is to change entrenched behaviors. If someone has a long habit of behaving a certain way (not wearing a seat belt, say) and then has the incentive through social marketing to behave a different way for only a short period of time, when the behavior change trigger lapses, there will be a strong temptation to return to the old habit. Perhaps this argues for the need to work on attitude change as well, to support the behavior change for the long term?
