A Sustainable Christmas Carol
2008-12-01 06:33:43 UTC
For your piano-side Yule tide singing pleasure ? a sustainable Christmas Carol sung to the tune of Deck the Halls.
*Deck the Walls with stuff from China,*
*Fa-La-La-La-La, La-La La-La.*
*Cough up dough and cut the whinin'.*
*Fa-La-La-La-La, La-La La-La.*
*Don we now name-brand apparel,*
*Fa-La-La, La-La-La, La La La.*
*What to buy for old Aunt Carol?*
*Fa-La-La-La-La, La-La La-La.* *
* *See the blazing mall before us,*
*Fa-La-La-La-La, La-La La-La.*
*Stand in line and join the chorus,*
*Fa-La-La-La-La, La-La La-La.*
*Fight the traffic and the weather,*
*Fa-La-La, La-La-La, La La La.*
*Maxing cards out altogether,*
*Fa-La-La-La-La, La-La La-La.* *
* *Fast away the paycheck passes,*
*Fa-La-La-La-La, La-La La-La.*
*iPods for the lads and lasses,*
*Fa-La-La-La-La, La-La La-La.*
*All stressed out for Christmas season,*
*Fa-La-La, La-La-La, La La La.*
*Can't remember quite the reason,*
*Fa-La-La-La-La, La-La La-La.*

Solar Powered Exhaust Vents
2008-07-23 20:35:08 UTC
I am working on a green retrofit of a set of three 100+ year old buildings (joined together in a renovation 20 years ago), and I'm looking for a solar powered "wall-mounted" exterior exhaust fan/vent as part of the new natural ventilation system. There are a good many "roof-mounted" models, but I'm coming up short finding a good wall-mounted fan for commercial use, i.e. something that can move a good deal more air than residential models. Does anyone have any suggestions for manufacturers of wall-mounted solar fans?

Carbon Footprint Calculators and "Everything Local"
2008-06-22 19:28:18 UTC
Thanks for some great feedback on Carbon Footprint Calculators. As I mentioned earlier, I'm looking for good (and, did I mention interesting) calculators to recommend on my blog. The purpose: to help people understand the consequences of their actions in the context of environmental impact. It's going to take me a few days to digest the calculators I've received so far. I've also had a very full week catching up after returning from a wedding (mine!) and short honeymoon in Wisconsin recently. So rather than posting calculators on my blog this week, I'm going to continue my "Everything Local" theme for a while longer and post calculators starting the week of June 30th. I appreciate greatly the thoughtful comments and links. Keep 'em coming this week and check for results week after next on the New American Village blog. Also, please feel free to check in for sustainability and livable neighborhood discussions. Scroll down a bit and you'll find a few pics of my lovely wedding in Spring Green, Wisconsin at Unity Chapel - the Lloyd Jones (Frank Lloyd Wright's mother's clan) family chapel. A beautiful bride, and a very sustainable relationship. http://newamericanvillage.blogspot.com
