Re: Barriers to Rotational Grazing of Livestock
2014-03-09 15:36:08 UTC
Whilst it may be true that there are some "cowboys" out there I think the real barrier to greater implementation of rotational grazing is the cost. To give an example. I added an extra property to my farm just over 2 years ago. It is 320acres in size and I split it into 30 paddocks of around 10 acres. The cost of fencing, water and related infrastructure was A$200k and took a year of my spare time. I might add that the fencing is all electric to keep the cost to minimum. I have no regrets about doing this and am a firm advocate of rotational grazing but not everyone has access to this type of resource.

RE: Office recycling
2007-05-05 09:13:39 UTC
At Ford Australia we introduced the office commingled waste system. We effectively removed all personal waste bins and replaced them with a communal general waste bin strategically placed on each floor. Each person was provided with a personal commingled recycling box. The vast majority of waste in an office environment was recycled: paper, drink containers, bottles, plastic. The main streams which could not be recycled in this environment were food contaminated material. Visy was the company that provided the service. Of course education, communication, awareness and management commitment were key to the success of the program which is still running after 5 years.
