Re: Water Efficiency Programs Relating to Indoor/Outdoor Water Usage
2010-02-02 17:24:15 UTC
Hi Amanda,
I'm not sure of the details, or who really that you could contact.
But in 2007, South East Queensland (Australia) was feeling the effects of one of the worst droughts on record. Hence State and local governments implemented numerour water efficiency schemes. One of which was called "target 140" http://www.qwc.qld.gov.au/tiki-read_article.php?articleId=72
there was a heap of things going on at the time, you might be able to contact the Qld Water Commission for details

Re: Conservation Easements

Hi deborah,
I work with conservation covenants in Australia, however ours arent so much focused on farm land at the moment, moreso on protecting good quality vegetation on private property. Most Local Councils within South East Queensland run similar programs, and the Queensland State government has a program called Nature Refuges that has a similar focus.
I'm not sure of their relevance to you, but there's a couple of good case study based reports available for download from http://www.naturerefuges.com/narla-research.html
If you think there's anything more i can help you with feel free to email me - [email protected]

Hey Holly,
In australia we have a Land for Wildlife program that educates and assists local landholders in protecting and enhancing their native vegetation.
see: http://www.seqcatchments.com.au/LFW.html or http://www.logan.qld.gov.au/lcc/logan/environment/biodiversity/cip/landforwildlife.htm
A few of the local council also run programs for smaller properties.
Other initiatives are running free community workshops.
cheers

Re: Encouraging People to use Native Plants in their Gardens
2009-06-10 18:07:44 UTC
Hey Rebecca,
There are a few programs in South East Queensland, where local councils educate, encourage and assist the community with revegetating their gardens with native plants. In my Council like most in the area we provide community members with an amount of free native trees per property per year. A few of the other Councils in the area have wild back yard type programs, where a council officer will assess a property and advise the landholder on what is a weed and what is native, in these programs they also get additional free natives.
If you want any more info feel free to contact me - [email protected]
Cheers
